Rachel studied at Falmouth School of Art between 1991 and 1994 in Fine Art and Print Making. It was here in Cornwall that her perspective quite literally changed. Sometimes imagining herself "on the wings" of a seagull, swooping along the coast and seeing above and beyond.

Over the years she continues to explore the rhythms of the sea, the sky and the character of such small cottages against the vastness of these elements.

Rachel had 3 solo exhibitions between 1997 and 1999 at the Picture House St.Ives which she managed. Although her marriage in September 1999 took her away from St.Ives, she kept her links with Cornwall and the Picture House. Rachel continued to exhibit her work as part of general exhibitions and visit nearly every month.

In 2000 she exhibited in Chelsea by invitation of Beside the Wave with whom she enjoyed success out of county and also exhibited in the Red Gallery in Marlow.

With the birth of her first child in 2001 came new challenges and responsibilities and she chose to enjoy those early years with her children.

10 years after her third solo exhibition she is proud to be doing her fourth which will be her first in Padstow. Five house moves and three children later she brings you a collection of work which has been in the making over the past four years. Returning to live permanently in Cornwall in August 2005 she is enjoying being surrounded by her inspiration once again. With her youngest child being two she dedicates the time she can to her painting and plans to return to her painting fulltime upon her daughter's entry into school in 2011. This new collection of paintings include images of Padstow, St. Ives ,Tresco, the Roseland and the Tall ships.

"Silver Seas" has been a slow but determined labour of love. Her whole life has been about her desire and enjoyment of painting. Despite the challenges of recent years with her health, suffering from neck and back pain limiting her ability to paint for long periods of time, she hopes that her work continues to show her inner energy and emotion for capturing a little abstract in a traditional Cornish view.

She looks at patterns in the sea and shore, contrasts vibrant colours with the subtle and breaks with traditional expectation of "the water colour". Spots and stripes dominate, forming pattern and rhythm. Perspective is sometimes twisted and turned, seagulls come and go , and the fishing boats and sails dance on the sea.
This exhibition will celebrate "a little sparkle", the silver shimmer in the sea and sky. These paintings are the last to quite literally have that silver glimmer, as the watercolour manufacturer she uses, no longer makes this colour .  As such, this will mark the end of her silver years.

As life changes and moves on, so has Rachel's work. The one thing that remains consistent is her love of Cornwall and her innate desire to capture it in her own unique way.
